Carn Liath and Stob Poite Coire Ardair from Aberarder

10.5 miles, 970 metres of ascent
Estimated time: 5h
This is a fine ridgewalk which leaves you sustained at a significant height. Start from the carpark at Aberarder.
Walk up the small road and continue along the path on the far side of Aberarder itself. You need to get to the obvious shoulder known as Na Cnapanan ahead of you and to the right, so before the path enters Aberarder Forest you need to leave the path and make your own way up there. Once on Na Cnapanan head just West of North to take you on to the Carn Liath ridge proper. This brings you out a few minutes from the summit of Carn Liath and you will probably end up there without even realising it (2h15m).
Head West off the summit and follow the ridge as it makes it's way round. You will make your way over quite a few tops on the ridge until the final ascent brings you on the long level ridge of Stob Poite Coire Ardair, the highest point is on the Western end where there is a summit cairn (4h).
The most direct route back now is to continue along the ridge until you drop down to the next col at 426885, from here drop down the East and down to Lachan a' Choire. You can then pick up the path on the North-Eastern end of Lachan a' Choire, this takes you all the way back to Aberarder. Alternatively, continue further along the ridge and bear right to reach the summit of Creag Meagaidh, another Munro. To return from Creag Meagaidh you should head East over Puist Coire Ardair and further still over pt 1001m, there is a bridge over Allt Coire Ardair just above Aberarder; you should have seen it on your way up.
