MUNRO CENTRAL

Carn Dearg and Sgor Gaibhre from Corrour

11.3 miles, 1031 metres of ascent
Estimated time: 5h30m
These two mountains make a fine day's walk from Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, they are not easily accessible from anywhere else, but make a reasonable day's walk from Loch Ossian.
If you are starting from the Corrour Station, walk the short distance along the track to the Youth Hostel. There is a track that follows tightly round the whole of Loch Ossian, but from here starts a path to the East that follows the Loch slightly higher, follow this path to Peter's Rock. From Peter's Rock head directly Eastward to gain the ridge at Meall na Leitire Duibhe, turn to the South along the ridge and you will shortly gain the summit of Carn Dearg (2h).
Head off the summit of Carn Dearg down it's North-East ridge, there is a large amount of descent involved here to get you down to the bealach known as 'Mam Ban'. Continue on the same bearing and make your way up the Western ridge of Sgor Gaibhre (3h).
Now make the short trip to the North over to Sgor Choinnich, this summit isn't pronounced enough to be a Munro in it's own right but is certainly high enough. From Sgor Choinnich head off the summit in a North-Westerly direction down over Meall Nathrach Mor. Your aim is to descend down to a marked path at the North-Eastern of Loch Ossian; you can effectively come down anywhere you like but you may have problems getting through the forest. Once you have picked up the path it is a straightforward walk along paths/tracks along the South shores of Loch Ossian back to the Youth Hostel.
